Source: danielplatzman.com

In the world of the 21st century, it’s impossible to talk about modern rock music without mentioning the earth rumbling pop rock band, Imagine Dragons.

With their anthemic choruses, captivating lyrics and electrifying beats, this American band has become a household name and dominates charts around the world.

Daniel Platzman is the name of their drummer who pounds explosive beats into their music and into the hearts of their audiences. He is also a songwriter, record producer as well as a composer.

Early Life

Born on September 28, 1986 in Atlanta, Georgia, Platzman grew up in a classical music family and he originally started off with learning the violin at 8 years old. It was then his brother, who played the bass suggested he take up the drums instead.

After finding his passion for music, he went on and took it seriously as he did his degree in film scoring at the Berklee College of Music. While he was there, he was far from being an ordinary student, he played in the Urban Outreach Jazz Orchestra, the Berklee Rainbow Big Band, and the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra.

At a relatively young age, he was already receiving awards showing his promise such as the Michael Rendish Award in Film Scoring as well as the Vic Firth Award for Outstanding Musicianship. It was during college that he met his future band mates, Wayne Sermon and Ben McKee.

Career

At the final semester of Platzman’s time at college in 2011, Sermon reached out to McKee and Platzman to join his band. Without much hesitation, they dropped everything they had and moved out to Los Angeles to join Sermon and completed the lineup for Imagine Dragons.

As the band progressed and continuously performed shows, they earned themselves a ton of local awards, accolades and recognition. It wasn’t long until they reached mainstream success with the release of their debut album, “Night Visions” in 2012 and reached number two on the Billboard 200 Chart and won the Best Rock Album in 2014 by the Billboard Music Awards.

To many, they have already made a huge achievement. To them, it was only the beginning and they used that opportunity to propel themselves further and continuously thrive to make generational-lasting music. As of 2023, they have released about 6 studio albums, 4 live albums, 27 singles, and 6 promotional singles.

This includes soundtracks for famous movies such as Iron Man 3, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Transformers, and Me Before You.

In 2017, the band released a song called “Believer" under the album “Evolve”. The song turned into a massive success and it became Imagine Dragon’s third top ten single after “Radioactive” and “Demons'' peaking at number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

It was heavily played everywhere on movies, television trailers, and advertisements including the Nintendo Switch Super Bowl LI advertisement. As of 2023, the song has reached up to 2.3 billion streams on Spotify alone.
