Drums statistics and facts

  1. The largest drum set in the world has a total of 813 pieces and was created by Mark Tempesta source.
  2. The oldest drums found are dated from 6000 BC and were found from Neolithic or ‘New Stone Age’ period excavations source.
  3. The most expensive drum set in the world is Ringo Starr’s Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl Drum Kit which was auctioned in 2015 for $2.2 million dollars source.
  4. The most expensive manufactured drum set was the Neil Peart Commemorative R30 Drum Kit produced by DW in 2006. Only 30 were made and they sold for approximately $30,000. Unlike the Ringo Starr drumkit above these were not owned by Neil Peart source.

  13. The first drummer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was Ringo Starr of The Beatles in 1988. The Beatles were inducted by Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones). Ringo Starr was also inducted as a solo performer in 2015 by Paul McCartney source.
  14. 581 drummers achieved the world record of “most people performing a drum roll online”. The feat was organized by Legacy 150 Celebrations Society on 1st of July 2021 source.
  15. The record for the largest djembe drum ensemble was set by Dell Technologies Greater China on March 15th 2019, with a total of 1,197 participants source.
  16. The largest collection of autographed drumsticks belongs to Peter Lavinger who has collected over 1,300 sticks which have all been played by drummers from popular bands and handed to him (including Ringo Starr’s sticks from the Beatles) source.
